What is an image hotspot?
An image hotspot is a clickable marker placed on an image that reveals content when a visitor interacts with it. Instead of a flat lifestyle photo, you get an image where each item can be tagged, priced, and linked – turning something inspirational into something shoppers can act on directly.
How do I add hotspots to an image in WordPress?
Open a page in the block editor, type /Image Hotspot to insert the block, then upload an image or select one from your Media Library. Place markers where you want them and attach content to each. It’s a Gutenberg block, so there’s no shortcode and no separate builder screen.
Can I link WooCommerce products to a hotspot?
Yes. Hotspots can pull in single products or archive products, showing product details inside the popup or slider so shoppers see price and information without leaving the page. That’s the difference between an image that inspires and one that sells.
Can I build a shoppable lookbook?
Yes. Tag multiple products on one image, link categories, and highlight styling details – which is what a lookbook needs. It suits fashion catalogs and home decor showcases where visitors browse a whole styled scene rather than one product at a time.
Can I change how the hotspot markers look?
Yes. Pointer icons and sizes are customizable, so markers can match your branding and sit at the right level of visibility – prominent enough to invite a click, restrained enough not to overwhelm the photograph underneath them.
Does it work with block themes and full site editing?
Yes. PikSprout provides native Gutenberg blocks, so hotspots work anywhere the block editor does – posts, pages, templates, and template parts in full site editing themes. WordPress 6.4 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher are required.
Do I need WooCommerce to use it?
No. Product linking is built for WooCommerce stores, but hotspots also carry text, images, audio, and video, so the blocks work on any WordPress site. Interactive diagrams, annotated floor plans, and labeled team photos all work without a store installed.
